Minimalist interior style is gaining more and more fans. Simplicity and functionality at the same time can be a perfect duo, which will create a room you just want to live in!
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, whose motto was less is more, is considered to be the spiritual father of minimalism. Minimalist interior aspires to calmness and orderliness. Thanks to it we will not feel the effect of being overwhelmed and the interior will not seem cluttered. Simple colors can also bring relief to our eyes and make it easier to relax in a living room arranged in such a way
The basis of minimalist interior design are natural materials such as concrete, leather, stone, wood or glass. The floor in a living room decorated in minimalist style should be made of wood or large tiles. Concrete “bald” walls painted in white or gray color, a wooden and leather bench will create an original and minimalist combination. Metal accessories, such as a chandelier or chairs with chrome legs, will also be perfect.
Dominant colors in minimalist interior are gray, white and black. If you are afraid that walls painted in grey or black color will be too dark and monotonous, bet on a tasteful break with white by using checkerboard or fashionable stripes. Pastel colors such as celadon, beige, pink or delicate, bleached brown will also work well on walls. The furniture should also be in the same color scheme. Remember not to overdo it with excessive colors – focus on two or three colors at the most and choose all the equipment according to them.
As befits a minimalist living room, the number of furniture pieces should be limited to the most necessary ones. However, there are some that cannot be missing.
A sofa in a living room decorated in minimalist style should be made of leather and kept in a minimalist color scheme, matching the surroundings. Its form should be simple – no arches, convexities or concave shapes. If we decide on an unusual finish, it is worth choosing wooden or metal legs
A coffee table is an invaluable element of every living room – especially if we want to enjoy a warm coffee in the morning or place snacks for guests. A coffee table in minimalist style should also be kept simple, without roundings or other decorative elements. The best choice is the one made of wood of natural color, metal or glass. If we decide on the latter option, transparent glass will make the living room seem even more spacious
To provide a source of light in a minimalist living room, choose a single-color lamp, referring in color to the interior design. Its appearance should be simple in form – a lamp in the shape of a circle, triangle or rectangle will work best. Of course, it should be smooth and made of glass, metal or other plastic. Industrial style lamps and standing lamps with a long arm will look very good
In a minimalist living room there is one most important rule: less is more. It applies both to furniture and accessories. That is why it is difficult to find trinkets, commonly known as ‘dust-catchers’, in such a decorated interior. Instead, abstract paintings in subdued, preferably black and white, colors reign on the wall. You can put a large plain carpet on the floor and some cushions on the sofa. Make sure they don’t look like a mess and are evenly arranged on the sofa. If you like plants, you can set them as a decoration – but remember minimalist pots that will not disturb the harmony of the room.
