There is no doubt that working from home, which has become extremely popular over the past two years, is not conducive to maintaining a proper work-life balance. It is difficult for us to maintain a proper routine that allows us to separate work-life from private life. However, there are ways to make us feel at home even while working at the office. We present them in the following article!
There is no single right definition that explains what work-life balance really is. It is simply a subjective feeling of each of us. It consists of overall satisfaction with both work and personal life. For some, it will be coping with all professional responsibilities while having time for hobbies, family, friends and entertainment. Still others feel they maintain a proper work-life balance when they have weekends off, which allows them to be more productive during the week.
Here are a handful of valuable tips to help you maintain a work-life balance, especially if you work remotely. If you don’t feel satisfied with your life, however, finding a reason is key. Only then will you be able to start working on yourself and your habits.
Working from home is not conducive to a clear separation of work and private life. However, it is worth designating a place in your apartment that you will use exclusively for work. It doesn’t have to be much: a comfortable chair and a desk in a quiet and peaceful place will suffice. Then set the hours of your work, which you will observe just as if you were going to the office. Inform your household members about them so that they don’t disturb you during this time.
Stick to your regular rituals: get up in the morning, eat a nutritious breakfast and get dressed. Sitting in even the most comfortable pajamas is unfortunately not conducive to productivity. It is much better to replace it even with a simple tracksuit. It is important that this is the outfit you wear during working hours. When it’s over, change your clothes to give yourself a clear signal that it’s time for time off.
When working for several hours continuously, our productivity decreases. So it’s a good idea to take breaks for lunch, coffee or for a moment of meditation and a breath of fresh air. Such moments of pleasure benefit our concentration and creativity. They also allow us to distance ourselves from professional responsibilities and return to work with new ideas.
Stress accompanies each of us to some degree. However, it’s worth finding your way to help us deal with it. In your daily schedule, find time for moments of relaxation that will allow you to distance yourself from your daily affairs. You can allocate it for meditation, taking a walk, playing sports, reading a book, etc. This will allow you to better manage your stress and consequently function more easily in your daily life.
New technologies allow us to manage our time better and easier, and help us focus on our most important responsibilities. Apps like Forest or Pomodoro make it easier to concentrate and plan our time properly, while Freedom and LeechBlock block our social media so that no one or nothing distracts us.
